It's an an inexpensive way to get an understanding of the the theory of sailing and a great way check out the sport at an accessible club level. It's a great day out and an affordable way to learn the theory behind how to sail a boat and experience the freedom associated with sailing with a crew. _________________________________________________________________________________ Basic Skills One learn to Sail Melbourne, Sailing Schools Melbourne, Sailing Courses Melbourne, Melbourne Sailing Schools .  This course is intended to provide students with the skills and knowledge necessary to rig and sail a small to intermediate 'daysailor' keelboat to the best advantage, using a variety of techniques under minimal guidance. This course comprises of two, four hour sessions( 2 x 4 hour sessions), over successive days/weeks and will be delivered through a combination of ‘classroom’ work, online reading, and on-water work in a on our Intermediate sized Keelboats. An Introduction to Sailing lesson, is a pre requisites for this Basic Skills 1 and 2 beginner course. The Course Covers: Prepare and Plan - Group and individual safety awareness, clothing, safety equipment, sailing boundaries Rigging - wind awareness, awareness of parts of and rigging the training boat Rope work – Figure of eight, round turn and two half hitches, reef knot, bowline Sailing Techniques - Sailing to windward, reaching and sailing downwind Manoeuvres - tacking, gybing, points of sailing, basic heave-to, primary boat controls, positions on the boat and helming under guidance Man overboard (MOB) procedures and drills, towing procedures Coming alongside to a fixed structure and mooring, launching and recovery of craft. Sailing Theory and Basic right-of-way Rules - avoiding collisions, power/sail right, port/starboard, windward/leeward, keep to the right of channels, overtaking vessels Weather awareness for safe inshore sailing - BOM Marine Winds   Basic Skills Two This course is designed to consolidate the experience and knowledge gained in  Basic Skills One. Basic Skills Two comprises of two four hour session ( 2 x 4 hour sessions). The course introduces the next level of skills and knowledge that will enable the successful participant to competently help crew a small keelboat boat, in controlled conditions (light winds, enclosed waters). It also focuses on meteorology and the impact wind and weather has on a sailing boat. If you just want to enjoy sailing every as a casual crew member, who has an idea of whats what, then, completing an Introduction To Sailing, Basic Skills One and Basic Skills Two is the way to go! You'll get a jump-start on how to sail a yacht, with some theory, learn to sail. The start of a series of lessons and articles on sailing. Sailing crew, racing crew wanted. We are looking for two or three experienced sailing crew members who have sailed and raced regularly on keel boats to form a team. Our sailing lessons are based around half day / 4 hour sessions. Participants can then choose sessions that fit around budget and time restraints. Our fee for a standard 4 hour session is $95.00 per participant. We have learned that half day sessions are best, participants don't get overloaded with information, or worn-out from being onboard a yacht all day. The 'Day Sailor' is a less expensive yacht because it doesn't feature all the extras that go with an overnight cruising yacht. Therefore we don't need as many participants to cover the costs. With smaller class sizes, 2 to 3 maximum, every participant has a task to do / learn. Participants start with an Introduction to Sailing, if they like the experience and want to go to the next step, we offer Basic Level 1 and followed by Basic Level 2. This is the basis for recreational sailing where participants are able to help with sailing a yacht and are certainly 'on the road' to independently sailing a yacht. The next level involves training for social Yacht Club racing. We operate all year wind and weather conditions depending. Our sailing lessons are conducted on Saturdays and Sundays. During daylight savings we conduct morning sessions starting at 09:00 am and afternoon sessions starting at 2:00 pm.
